Michelle Burns’s experiences as a teacher are apparent in the teachings of her debut book, The Ugly Bug Ball.
About the Author
Michelle Burns never thought staying after school with one of her colleagues, Anissa Freeman, one Wednesday afternoon would result in achieving her life-long dream of becoming a published author. After many hours of collaborating, Stanley and Remy’s story blossomed into The Ugly Bug Ball.
After mentioning ideas for a story when they passed by each other in the halls at school, Michelle and Anissa finally decided to write a story and become authors. Because of their love of writing and telling stories, Michelle and Anissa quickly became immersed in their characters and the story they wanted to convey to their young audience. It was important to both of them that their story be utilized in the classroom across all content areas and not just in the area of reading.
Michelle was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, but has spent most of her life in Marietta, Georgia. She graduated from Marietta High School and went on to Arizona State University where she earned her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. In 2006, Michelle went back to school and obtained her master’s degree in reading and literacy through Walden University. She has taught a variety of grade levels over the past ten years and truly enjoys impacting the lives of children.
She currently resides in Hiram, Georgia, with her daughter and their miniature poodle, Henri. Being the middle of five children herself, Michelle often found peace reading and writing stories at a young age and has always wanted to share her stories with others. For Michelle, The Ugly Bug Ball is just the beginning.
